Alas it’s more likely that UKAG gets the anvil on its head, when Govt makes out that shortages are due to feckless farmers not bothering with the expense of fertiliser because they’re more interested in planting trees and nurturing bumblebees 🙄

I'm not going to get too excited about global wheat supply, I think I can feed my own family, milk, eggs, beef available on farm, can trade some of these for lamb from the brother and spuds from the man down the road. Shame that I won't be able to have any more avocados or quinoa, but I'll live. If the rest of the world don't want to value my produce properly they can go jump.

one point i would make is that most russian farmers out in the open countryside wont have seen a russian or tank this whole time only those on major routes to cities most likely? its a vast area ukraine
Most Russian farmers?

You mean Ukrainian farmers?

I thought all the men of a certain age had been asked to come forward to defend?

Fact is if China now do a walk about into Taiwan to follow suit sanctions will have to be placed onto them , where’s all the wheat and meat going to go , where will all their cheep shite plastic etc come from?
Perhaps in that case "the west" would employ some good old double standards

Ukrainian analysts this week put the spring area down 39% and 2 million ha of winter crops damaged
Some of the problems ( other than a war 🤦🏻 ) are no fuel, no staff, no seed, no fert then there’s the matter of getting grain out if its harvested, nothing can come out the ports and only a fraction can come by rail if that can keep running

Anyone who thinks this war will only have a limited effect on an already tight world wheat and oilseed stocks is deluded!!

I believe those involved in tractor driving have been granted leave to go do that. Also not all men are fighting at the moment from what I read, just not allowed to leave the country, incase they are required.

It's OK.
Everyone stop worrying
The right hon. 'Useless' has issued a reassuring message impressing readers that UK is more or less self sufficient in wheat.
And yields can be boosted by sweeping up last autumns leaf mould, and collecting hamster droppings from petshops etc.
So everything is fine. 'Flap off' chaps.

PS I'm intrigued.
If you arable fellas manage to conjure up a few hundred tonnes of fym you'd forgotten about, have a barn busting crop, but then find the world trade had doubled due to those nasty old external forces..... i take it you'll lobby for an export ban to stop yourselves cashing in?
I really don't understand this very well.
I must listen to George some more.

I’ve posted this in previous threads
2020-2021 we consumed 787.4 million tonnes of wheat
Let’s say production is down by 20% we will only be short by 157 million tonnes.

that is a huge amount
17% is wasted.
Plus half of us consume too much.

Answer is right in front of us.

There are usually some figures bandied about giving “days of wheat left” before harvest.

What will the “days of wheat left” be in 2022 ?

Will the figures turn negative ?

According to this https://www.statista.com/statistics/237908/global-top-wheat-producing-countries/

Ukraine produced 33 million tons of wheat in 2021, its not 25% but quite a big heap some of which has to be found elsewhere.
I seem to remember being told at college the useful number was the days supply, with combines rolling at different times across the planet that Ukraine figure is part of the northern hemisphere harvest and there may not be enough in store for it to be replaced by wheat from the Southern Hemisphere when it’s cut.

All this is a moot point for the countries that were buying all their wheat from Ukraine

Bg
The point shes making is that its 25% of exported wheat - most wheat is grown and consumed in the same country, ergo the war shortfall is 0.9% of the total global wheat crop.

80% of wheat used to stave off starvation in Yemen this year was due to come from Ukrain according the UN World food programme - that is having to be sourced from elsewhere and at only half of the original requirement.
