Global Wheat Shortage due to Ukraine War

According to this https://www.statista.com/statistics/237908/global-top-wheat-producing-countries/

Ukraine produced 33 million tons of wheat in 2021, its not 25% but quite a big heap some of which has to be found elsewhere.
I seem to remember being told at college the useful number was the days supply, with combines rolling at different times across the planet that Ukraine figure is part of the northern hemisphere harvest and there may not be enough in store for it to be replaced by wheat from the Southern Hemisphere when it’s cut.

All this is a moot point for the countries that were buying all their wheat from Ukraine

Bg
Even if Ukrainian farmers manage to grow a 90% crop any exports to world markets would still have to pass through port facilities ….

There is a big difference between a loss of exports and a loss of production. We know Russian and Ukrainian exports are affected but we don’t yet know exactly what the war means for Ukraine production. Does limited diesel supplies go to the army or the farmy? I don’t think Ukraine’s exports can be looked at independently to its production. Export shortage may be made up elsewhere but what if Ukraine also needs fed... Dr Sarah is wrong to focus soul on the export figures and discount production.

Russia apparently still exported about 2 million tonnes of grain in the last month.

Truss is already saying that if a deal over Ukraine gets done then the UK might lift the sanctions against Russia!

And the fact the ground is littered with bombs, schrapnel and I exploded cluster bombs ( from telly reports and pictures)
I wouldn’t fancy combining a field of wheat and hitting an unexploded bomb with the combine !
As all us farmers know , when your harvests in the shed , then do your calculations , as to how much there is , " it ain't over till its over " , too many keyboard academic warriors about these days

Yes they will have because not all countries have sanctions against Russia.
China being a near neighbour and easy access hasn't.

perfect storm ?

I don’t think stocks in china are counted in world supplies as they don’t say what they really have.

Fact is if China now do a walk about into Taiwan to follow suit sanctions will have to be placed onto them , where’s all the wheat and meat going to go , where will all their cheep shite plastic etc come from?

They know the sanctions are more of an own goal and wont affect Russia anyway, they dont care about civillians anyway they still raking in money on gas and oil which is all that matters really and they have cash reserves not in billions of debt like us , sad but

not at all surprised, anything to get peace, quickly, has got to help, preferably before some of our European partners decide to by pass the sanctions, to help ease the domestic pain.

as to production in Ukraine this year, got to be iffy, farmers are much to busy, hauling abandoned Russian vehicles about.

would you want to do field work, with a war around you, not knowing if there are landmines about, or tanks going to trash the ground, or be shot at ?
