Looks like the Germans still want it banned in a political deal
Makes no odds, be out in a few years.
Don't forget the Germans have always been very "green." We've benefitted from the biofuels & renewables that they pioneered with their green energy schemes. The main worry recently was that Merkel would support a ban to get the green support she badly needs to form a government. She may be pro science & see the right thing for us but pesticides are just a pawn in the chess game of politics.
I agree with the sentiment but I'd hate to see future post Brexit UK exports to the EU banned using the precautionary principle of us doing things that might undermine their own markets. I'm sure on German farming forums there has been a paralell debate about why they should protect domestic production by restricting imports of goods produced to a "lower standard" i.e. using glyphosate. We've endlessly debated hormones in beef & milk, plus chlorine washed chicken - you have to be careful what you wish for!
Like RR will be banned you mean ?!
The very GREEN Germans quietly opened the biggest dirtiest (high sulphur coal burning) power station in W Europe due to the anti nuclear excitement.Don't forget the Germans have always been very "green." RR isn't on their doorstep, even if it's in their food. BSE was used as an excuse to keep British Beef out of France for years longer than necessary. RR crops are grown all over the place but mostly across the Atlantic from us. The Channel is closer in may ways, not just geographically. No one gave a toss as to how the Chinese used our plastic waste but if we were burning it & generating acid rain for continental Europe they'd soon be more vocal. I hope that's not total gibberish!

How will it stop imports?,under wto rules you are not allowed to restrict imports just because you don't like the way they are grown.Thats why they cannot stop gmo imports into the eu and glyphosate treated crops will just be the sameFrance is also planning on banning the use of Glyphosate within three years as well, Macron is keen to see the ban across the EU to keep a level playing field. It may well be a preemptive way of stopping imports that don't conform, not with the UK in mind but more likely north and south America, who knows.

But it's not a health risk under wto rules so you cannot restrict its importIf it's a health risk (cancer) to your population, you can restrict it. Chlorinated chicken, steroidal beef anyone. I am not saying that's definitely what it's about, but Macron knows he can't ban it's use in France and let other countries import produce with glyphosate residue in it.

It's not up to Macron what other countries do, however imperial the French think they are within EU. Individual member states can ban what they like. What I'm interested in is how Macron intends to juggle keeping the farmers and greens content by manipulating French laws to prevent certain active ingredients being used whilst keeping the playing field as level as feasible?
Are Macron's claims as genuine as Boris Johnson's of building a Channel Bridge or are they just platitudes to win votes?
We can soon ramp up production to fill your shortageWho knows, if he carries it out it will be a pia for French farmers but he is clever and a listener. However, I doubt it will be of any consequence to UK produces as their exports are small.
If rr feed is. Banned the Europeans will need to import a lot more food we can fill that market with proven roundup free produce
