Going ahead with a new shed

Plan was to put up a new shed here this spring / summer, planning has been passed, but i'm really doubting if i should be spending money on a shed right now, thoughts ?

I know it is a long way off if you have just had planning passed but I have been told that there will be no flexibility in the expiry of permissions due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

What could be classed as start of works? Would the levelling of a field ready for building foundation works to start be acceptable? TIA

If you and your family are confident that you are going to survive CV, and that there’s a reasonable future for your sector of farming afterwards and paying for it in the short term isn’t going to put you under too much financial stress then I don’t see why not.

Or put another way, only you can decide.

How much of a ballache was planning?

Would you be prepared to go through it again, to get the same shed re-granted?

Other than the manufacturers possibly not operating currently, agriculture hasn't changed since this time last month and I don't see long term anything changing too drastically (until Brexit rears it's head again).


Personally, crack on. But you have to be happy to, yourself.
 
Moving an electric pole and stoning the site?
Moving the electric pole providing it is documented could be considered starting work; would be best to check with the planning officer rahter than assuming. Stoning the site would be less certain as this could be in realation to many different scenarios. Assuming the electricity board need to be involved in moving the pole then justification of the new shed would be needed and therefore directly linked to the planning permission.

Generally shed builders require 30% up front, 30% after delivery of materials and the balance upon completion. I say you stand a real chance of loosing the 30% to secure the job so I would hold off. Certainly all our plans here are shelved for the time being. Thats forward sales, forward input purchases, machinery trade and swaps etc.
