Got a golf TSI twincharger, (supercharged and turbo) Vw garage diagnosed missfire, low compression in cylinders 1 3 4 (11 bar). Only 2 is correct at 13 bar . Idles rough and no power. Not running hot or using any oil , exhaust gas warning light on . All was ok until did emergency stop and stalled it. Vw don't know what's up with it ,and don't recommend its driven. useless or what.!!No power because engine is not running properly and exhaust pressure not spooling up turbo is my thought but what's problem with engine? Why is compression low .?Ideas any one?? Coils changed made no difference, cars only done 54000.Can any one recommend a good mechanic or independent garage that would be up to sorting this out. I'm in south lincs Boston , spalding area. Tia.

Bent valves ?

Low compression is the problem, guess your going to have to pull the head to see what has happened

Best case is you have slipped a tooth on the cambelt timing is out - check that first

Keep us informed, I've got a 160hp golf 1.4tsi, it's a willing little engine, was told to get rid by 90-100k miles as its complex and putting out a fair bhp/litre. 54k miles sounds pretty low though.

Mine sounds like an old tractor for a few seconds when it starts, could it be the supercharger or turbo clutches not engaging/disengaging at the correct rpm?

Turbo clutches??

I can't remember if the turbo is clutched or just spools up as exhaust pressure rises, but the supercharger has an electromechanical clutch and disengages above about 4000rpm when the turbo takes over. Giving a much wider powerband than from a normal 1.4.

Turbos as far as i know just sit in the exhaust flow and spin up according to exhaust gas flow, there are tweeks like a wastegate to allow excessive pressures to be released when its been designed to provide lots pressure at low revs, and also variable vanes (while they are not stuck!) around it to increase efficiency.

No idea, sorry, the nearest i got to VW/seat/audi carp was a Galaxy, which was little to do with Ford, its A4 tdi engine was a real money pit (amongst a whole catalog of other inherent faults) so was Ebayed at 55k miles and 5 years old. Its replacement proper Ford has passed 72K without issue.
