Gone and done it again!

I've only gone and bought another camera! It was just too tempting. I'm addicted to sophisticated technology.

This means that I have another camera for sale if anyone is interested. A super little advanced compact Fuji X20 complete with bag and a couple of spare batteries that have been hardly used.

Oh, the new one? Yes, it's a Panasonic GX80, which is about the same size as the x20 when fitted with the appropriate lens. Why have I done it? Because I'm soft in the head (according to the missus). The advantage to others is that it gives the opportunity to purchase a lightly used modern camera at a superb saving on new.

There's no such thing as a professional camera. There are professional photographers of course and they will, if they are any good at all [which doesn't necessarily follow] capture superb images while making the best of the tools at hand. Wedding photographers need big cameras in order to justify big bills.

The only thing I lose using m4/3 cameras is a slight amount of dynamic range and more noise above ISO 3200, both of which I can work around. I'd have looked a right tit last night shooting with a full frame camera. The GX80 fitted into my jacket pocket. In dark social conditions like last night, the sensor image stabilisation on the GX80 came into its own [though obviously not for shooting moving people], giving me a five stop shutter speed advantage over a non stabilised setup, although I mostly used the popup flash with people in such poorly lit conditions, I must admit.
I'd only taken five shots with the new camera before venturing out last night and had only customised the top dials. No problem and it worked great, even taking group shots with the 10 second delay times three, so that I had time to be in the frame by just walking round to the front while camera rested on a shelf.
Wifi setup took about 15 seconds, so I was able to show pictures to friends immediately on my phone.

I've still got one big DSLR and a set of nice primes for it. I do use it now and again because I like it when casual shooting with no pressure or the need to carry it for long periods. The camera that is always with me is the G6 and increasingly the G7, because they are so comfortable and light. My go-to everyday lens is the stabilised Panasonic 14-140, of which I have two, but I have a variety of others, including 100-300 [200-600 full frame equivalent] and 7-14 wide angle rectilinear Olympus Pro lens [it is waterproof and has a manual focus clutch] bought in 2016 and several lovely m4/3 primes, my most used being the Olympus 45 f1.8

I've used a Canon 5D Mk 3 often enough to know what it does, its advantages and its disadvantages. I'm not one that is impressed with photos with such shallow depth of focus that the eye is in focus while the eyebrow or other eye isn't, although I can actually do that with the m4/3 with appropriate lens. I choose not to for the most part.
I bet you that the vast majority of professional photographers choose not to use full frame big DSLR's for their own unpaid private and social use. Most of them will have other systems that are smaller, lighter, more convenient.

I have no need or desire to impress anyone. I use what I like, regardless of cost. If you enjoy using full frame cameras, great, carry on and post a few of your superior images here for us to be wowed.

Here's a portrait of someone you might know, taken a couple of weeks ago with either the G7 or E-M10, I forget which, and the Olympus 45mm lens

The problem is with a budget Camera .if someone takes a duff shot he will more than likely blame the camera .not up to the job .if that person was to buy a higher end camera with some good lennses they would invest the time in learning the skills of using that camera to inprove the shot .the man who says buy a cheap camera to learn on is talking bull poo .if you want to spend the money .you can afford to spend it and you enjoy photography then buy the best you can

I'm glad you are enjoying it. I would enjoy it for a while but probably leave it on the shelf most of the time, just as I actually do with my very capable DSLR.
I just prefer the sophistication, customisation, versatility, video capability, smaller size and lighter weight of the rest of my cameras. Most of the time. Each to their own.

By the way, none of my cameras are "budget cameras" and each is capable of far better image capture than I am. The Fuji, for instance, despite its relatively small sensor, is immensely capable with a bright lens to die for, and has served me well for discreet photography at concerts using its 'silent mode'. A DSLR would be quite inappropriate in those conditions with its mirror slap noise and large size.
During the coming year, I will almost certainly buy another bridge camera to replace the one I recently sold and to extend my zoom range beyond 600mm equivalent.

Whether someone is interested enough and is capable enough to learn a camera and to take good images and even to process images, is entirely independent of the equipment they have at hand.
I agree that a basic camera is not the best to learn and grow with. I have a basic Nikon point and shoot compact, which I bought for a reason but which I very seldom use myself unless its pishing down with rain. The beauty is that I can give it to anyone to use and it doesn't intimidate them, even children, and it takes rough handling, dirt and water in its stride. So it has its place.

The thought hadn't even occurred to me. If you prefer large cameras, that's great. I like them all.
I was in Jessops Brighton today they had that camera of yours on show in the window .camaras are a minefield .was looking at the D750 in there , not that im looking for one at the moment.the salesman in there does a lot of photography himself and hes in love with the D500 .they all seem to have their preference

The D500 is the camera of the moment apparently. I've not seen one yet. Its not a full-frame 35mm camera of course, but probably the highest priced and best APS-C DSLR available today. Over 150 focus points with a shedload of them being cross type if I remember correctly. The main reason people rave about it is because it is the successor to a camera that had not been updated in five or more years, and a lot has changed since then. That's not taking away from its undoubted great performance capability, especially tracking focus.

Only thing you have to remember is that it is all about the image. If you really think that such a camera and matching high performance lenses help you to create great images, go for it. Just don't assume that whatever you do makes images taken by any other camera less impressive. Judge the art not the brush.

I was in conversation with someone the other day that really liked some photos I had printed and, almost predictably he said "they are really great. You must have a great camera, what is it?" I told him straight that if a labourer had manually dug a really tidy ditch on his yard that he would not be asking him "that's great, you must have a really great shovel. What shovel is it?"

Its the person behind the camera that works the magic [or not]. The tool used just makes the job easier and more enjoyable [or not].

Since it is also topical, I will say the same thing about cars. No matter what brand or model, the important thing is that it gets you to where you want to go. Any and all cars should manage this. The difference being in what model suits you and gives you the best driving experience that suits yourself. Others may have a different requirement and use a different route to get there.
