Only last a few washes until the treatment has worn off

Not strictly true, that only really applies to cotton FR material.

Synthetic fibres that are manufactured to be FR aren’t treated, they are FR by the materials used to manufacture them.

The FR aspect isn’t really the most important bit for a welders overall, it’s more the thickness of the material and especially the tightness of the weave that are important in shedding sparks.
