Hello all,
I really could do with buying myself a tractor - the situation is fairly complicated but more or less I have use of father's maxxum 125, but as I am doing more contracting and other work with it (including a fair bit of extra road work) its really getting to the point where I need something of my own - not to mention the fact that 2 people trying to use 1 tractor is a bit trying at times. Looking for something that will be nice to use, comfortable and reliable but also not too expensive. Really dont want to spend over £20,000 but £15-18k would be nicer. Other issue (or not depending how you look at it) is it will need to be purchased on finance. Does anybody have any experience with buying second hand kit on finance and know what the best way to handle this is? Would like to pay it off over 3 years ideally but a longer term with the option of paying it off sooner would be nice (if that exists). The farm has always just bought a brand new tractor, trading in the old one against it and having it on 0% finance, which is fine if you have one to trade in, but in this instance that isnt really an option. I am also needing to replace the small baler this year, wandering if maybe to finance the tractor and baler together and if that would yield a better interest rate?
As for what make and model... what do people reckon I can get? I'd quite like to have gears and linkage controls on the same stick (like on a basic spec modern NH) but I expect getting that would be a struggle within budget, even the early models of that without the linkage control look quite nice. Ideally would like to have some form of fuel usage recording (like datatronic) and a front linkage. Cab and front axle suspension would be nice too. All depends on what is about though really, second hand tractors are obviously making a lot of money at the moment!
