Is there a way to turn off the search from address bar - it is a pest with its auto complete

would like to search from here, but even if I click to type there it auto goes to address bar

I might be able to help. In chrome the address bar is both search and url entry so in reality it 'should' make no odds. I am guessing it is appending your search term to the end of the address in the bar and that is why it is annoying.

Make sure a dodgy web search bar hasn't installed itself by carefully checking the default search in the settings.
If not then turn off predictive address entry and the 'search as you type' love search function, can't think of the name at the mo.

If I open a new tab it auto goes to this page

and I then am not able to search from the box under google only from the address bar.
But if I open a new tab from this
