Well it’s cringeworthy when farmers want praise but I was getting sick of hearing praise for the supermarkets...for doing what? Selling more than normal and making even more money?!
The only hero’s in all this are doctors and nurses
What about the workers in the supermarkets? Working for just above minimum wage - long hours dealing with the unwashed masses who all want their pasta & bog roll - not following the guidelines on distancing or following the one way systems. Doing this day in, day out with little to no effective PPE, whilst masses are able to sit at home on 80% or full pay. That's not to take away from what those in the NHS do, but they aren't the only heroes.

I do have sympathy for the workers in the supermarkets. They're on the front line whilst the bosses are raking in the profits. So they going to get a little extra pay. I should ruddy think so. The CEOs must think Christmas has come early. I imagine their profits will be greatly increased this year. All those consumers who would normally eat out are now coming in store for home cooking supplies. Coronavirus has effectively done what Tesco et al have been trying to do for years - close down all the opposition whilst allowing the supermarkets to carry on as normal and increase market share. Yes the independent food shops have done well too and I'm pleased with that. But you've got to feel sorry for clothes shops, electrical, garden centres etc. They've had to shut whilst the supermarkets are still allowed to sell these items. There was a guy in the paper yesterday moaning that he's been told to shut his garden centre whilst just down the road shoppers are coming out of Asda with their trollies piled high with plants.
