Grading beam

i once saw a piece of railway track attached to a beam worth two chains a foot long or so
beam was fastened to quick hitch on the digger, about 7-8 feet long was making a good job
it could use the beam aswell for dragging lumps about

I was considering bolting a 6ft girder on the tooth holes on a bucket to level a menage.
Or are you thinking a more sophisticated tool ?
A proper one to be honest with 2 beams and a tilt we have a rubber scraper blade for yard snd that’s brilliant will even scrape up a stone yard without pulling stones up

Seen videos of them, seem a good idea but only on a tilty. If you need to angle it then your not grading it level? And if its just on a normal hitch then corners still cut it if machine not level so may aswell use a ditching bucket. Id say biggest part of grading is to have a machine level to start and have patience. Pictures are of just grading with a ditching bucket.

Made a basic channel frame which worked well enough.
Problem was the excess material would build up in front of digger so added the edge to move it away/ dribble some in low spots. Added a mount for laser receiver also.
Tilt makes earth bankings a piece of cake also.

Is it much better than using a ditch bucket , I guess it’s a lot wider so cover more area I hadn’t imagined it quite so deep front to back can you think of any improvements to your design coincidentally your user name would work for me, thanks for the picture

This is what my idea was based on without the fancy hitch which would totally fry my brain.
First few hours was serious hard work, as you're trying to press and drag with the rear of the leveller which is the reverse of normal.
The length helps to avoid it pitching too much.
A pro with a ditching bucket would be miles ahead but for an amateur with a wobbly kingpost I am very happy with it!

Yes it’s not cheep and have had quotes in for attachments with rotator or tilt and it soon adds up the difference in price but it’s about 24k for full spec for 15t digger and will add buckets slowly as and when I need them. But you could do it for 16k more than lightly
