These can be taken out in sections, if you brace across the laterals, with some 3in angle iron or similar, brace the joint also, and then sling from the bracing, and lift a full width x 2 deep sections, find that you have problems trying to remove every individual slat.

I know it's now sold but Would this have been suitable to dry hay in square bales?

Quite possibly although I only ever used it for grain.
