Grain trailer painting

Looks like a damp week ahead so thought we might have time to paint the older trailers. Any suggestions on paint type and supplier? How much prep? Red oxide first or straight on with top coat. One trailer not too bad and other quite rusty inside. Just thinking student and a brush but could go for spray if considered worthwhile?
Thanks

Surely the paint won't be anything like hard enough.

You can't beat professional shot blasting to prep metal and whatever else they do. I've seen people have it done to metal objects and it comes back delicious looking, I think they dip it in acid as well prior to painting?

First option is always blast and paint. 2 coats of epoxy 2k primer and 3 coats of 2k polurethane. That’s how we paint our new machinery.

Failing that. Sand back with 80 grit on a da sander. Sake out all rough areas with wire wheel and skim with filler if pitted.
Once all sanded, 2k highbuild primer. Doesn’t matter what brand as it’s a trailer. Once dry, 24hr or so. Sand that back with 240 and then apply 2-3 coats of 2k polyurethane topcoat of what ever colour. If you get stuck on paint drop me a pm. We get ppg paint at silly price as we buy so much of it. in that case pressure washer it ff, dry, and apply paint through pressure washer,
why would you leave it to this time of year to do this, is beyond me
I think the idea is to find something to keep the mind occupied whilst your entire years wages are being hammered into the ground by rain out in the fields....
Don't know why I'm so glum, I've finished my harvest.

Think you slightly missed the point of the question......

Red oxide will dry in a couple of hours, then brush on topcoat, dry enough to use in a day or two

I've recently painted an old spare trailer we matched the body colour with one generous coat of hammerite blue applied with a brush.

But

Preparation is key - good pressure wash first and then remove any rust with a flap disc or knotted wire wheel but wear all the PPE as these can throw bits of wire or rusty metal at the user

In terms of drying time leave it as long as possible
