Had a go at a bit of flood irrigation. Quick fag packet calculations show it’s getting the equivalent of about 3mm of rain. Not really a sustainable enterprise, but if some of it survives and I get a bit of variety I’ll be happy. Plus, I’m buggered if I’m going to just sit back on a windy afternoon and watch it all shrivel up. View attachment 899140View attachment 899141

this is the good looking corner, pleased with that.

Jeez. It's an ill divided world. Plenty folk up here doing flood irrigation of the worst kind. Flood warnings about all over the country. 35 mm here in 15 hours. 💦💦💦💦💦💦

Which drill
The Simtec loosens the soil to much for liking, yes I know its deeper .
Very rarely will the seeds die from slot drying out with baker boot drill (Duncan/aitchison) as the seed lies at the bottom of a slot with moisture coming up from below. Common problem with Moore as the seed tends to sit on the sidewalls of the slit which then dies when the slit dries and opens up.

That’s happening with the slots from my MF drill. The dry has kind of peeled them open and now the strong wind can get in.

I was really pleased with it a week ago but there’s definitely less seedlings there now.
Frit Fly ?

Was dry where we drilled yesterday so I put the back rake down hard for him to put more soil on the seed

Any slugs about or leatherjackets Peter?
Have a dig with spade see if any about.
Good way to see for slugs is chuck a bag or a slate on floor Or even a upturned sheep trough see if the barstewards are there.
