Being thinking for a while it would be good to have a thread on to compare grass growth rates of us that measure our grass. But its bein too depressing to start it so far this season. But after finally smashing through magic day thought now is the time. Dunno how much info people wanna share but i'll start off with this week growth rate of 93kg/DM/ha and average cover of 2580kg/DM/ha.

Will be skipping couple paddocks that are above 4000 to put in pit hopefully next week. Hows everyone else finding it. Growth rate last week was only 35kg/DM/ha amazing what a warm shower will do.

Green Grass I think that's a great idea.

If anyone requires a special tool designed to help farmers maximise their profitability. The ‘Grassland Sward Stick’ is free and aimed at making sure farmers can get the best out of their grass. The Sward Stick is printed with the optimum heights for grass taking into account the different needs of sheep and beef cattle. PM your name and address and I'll get one in the post to you.

good idea this, never actually measured ours but pretty good at guessing.
would say we are averaging about 2200kg at the moment, wouldn't have a clue on growth though.

Won't be much growth here for a while. 6 degrees wet and blowy tonight and forecast to go colder. Next 5 days hovering around 10 or 11 degrees max:(

Yes, certainly noticeably colder the last couple of days, soil temp seems to be holding stead at 10dC or more. Some of my customers have cut 1st cut silage some are going next week, 10 days later than last year on average.

Dropped some maize seed off this afternoon, maize that was planted on this farm 7/8 days ago is up! Nice little green rows showing, his SW/lupins are showing too, interestingly though the blue lupins are further on than the yellow(same field).

Grass here has been growing slowly all winter----never really got in to measuring growth as I am on a very extensive grazing system, but there's no time like the present to start :)

Anybody down here managed to get any N on yet? I can't believe how green peoples grass still looks even though, according to people that sell fertiliser, all the nitrogen has been washed out ages ago?
