Grazing osr with sheep

I have some osr which is pretty forward , unlike last years disaster , which we are debating whether to knock back to allow better Astra Kerb coverage . It is unlikely to get opened up by cold weather here so wondered about lightly grazing it with sheep .
How many sheep per ha ? Is it best to graze it with a lot of sheep over a short period or less sheep over a longer period .
How do sheep do on osr ? Would you graze in lamb ewes on it or lambs .

Not a complete answer, but I finished lambs on volunteer rape before wheat was drilled.

Lambs grew like stink in it after they adjusted to it.

What would you think about in lamb ewes ? I'm not a sheep man , unless there on a plate with mint sauce , and the shepherd who's sheep I could use hasn't any experience of grazing osr .

Run in lamb ewes in forage rape/stubble turnips.

The transition period is the only worry really. So make sure they have access to sone good hay if haylage.

I also put out mineral licks for them and licks. Minerals need to include iodine ideally I think.

@ZXR17 i’ve just driven passed my cousins OSR and there sheep on it. It’s about 10 acres of very lush OSR with about 50 store lambs on. The field is only a stones throw from the bosses house if your up this way any time soon.

I’ve put some on mine as a bit of a trial.......high risk as the rape looks great, some small amounts of larvae found in the stem so we decided to give it a go! 😬

Not sure how even a graze people will get on a whole field basis. Probably better to tighten up and block graze moving them on quickly depending on weather. More work but would be interested to see results. It is a bit counter intuitive grazing OSR.
