Thinking of changing my Variant for a GZ, main gripe with the Variant is the main web drive slipping, is a GZ going to be any better?

Has the variant got drive shoes on the main barrel, if so maybe worn down below the web ,under web tensioner not tensioned enough,,build up of soil on the share arms will stop the web .
We used to get all these problems with Reekies,,drive shoes got wet and slipy in heavy ground, web stopped

Why should that be?

There is no rubber stars behind the 1st web like the variant, there is also 3 webs and the potatoes drop onto a little 3rd web, which is short and steep so the potatoes roll easier, we went from a 2001 GZ to a 2000 variant... GZ wasn't a step forward on the plus side cart is wider and deeper which was better.

Go to a GT 170 m there’s plenty around, you will regret buying a GZ after owning a Variant we did , if main web is slipping check the web tensioner the pivot pins will rust solid so even with full tension on the springs it won’t tension the web, hope this helps

Never had main web slip on our gz. Good harvester if a little unfashionable. Will swap for a bulkier in next few years (hopefully)

I wouldn’t let the digger web put you off buying a gz. I used to pull one for a contractor a few years ago and the digger web takes the strain off the main web for drive issues. You will have to keep the webs tight as the drive rollers wear. I was mainly lifting on wold land so drives wore quickly. If you keep plenty of soil going up the machine you won’t find much damage issues

We have 2 gz and 2 variants, 1 of each converted to a windrower. they all seem suffer slipping webs at times but we replaced drive rollers which helped alot, gz dls with intake web is probably the best machine to avoid the slipping. But in terms of a better harvester If it was my choice I'd either get a gt or stick to the variant, we only use the gzs as a back up incase the variants break down or have a spare operator for them.
