When No-Till Bill was over here (from his native W Australia) a couple of years ago, he was asking why Cereals was all about tillage and why there wasn't a No-Till equivalent. I couldn't think of a good reason why and, seeing as no-one else was going to organise such a thing, thought we might as well put our own show on. So keep the 30th of June free and get ready to come along.
It will be a show organised by farmers, for farmers. With the help of TFF! We've invited the key drill manufacturers to come and display their machines. There will be some cover crop to drill directly into, and some ground more like stubble. The land is in its sixth season of continuous no-till and should show nicely what each drill can do.
Of course the machinery is only a small part of what you need to make no-till work. There will also be other companies selling their wares and services to help the transition. We are lining up some fantastic speakers to invigorate and stimulate existing practitioners and anyone who's thinking of starting a bit of direct drilling. We will also have a Question Time type panel of 'experts' for the audience to interrogate. Details to follow.
If we plan the grazing right, we should have a mob of cattle nearby to demonstrate some mob-grazing. We are a long way away from saying that we know what we are doing here, we are merely hosting the event as a physical forum for ideas. We've called it 'Groundswell' as the whole No-Till movement is being driven by farmers working out new ways of farming, for themselves. And we are all trying to make the ground well. And swell come to that.
We will be charging for entry and there will a limit on the number of tickets available to keep the show manageable. Tickets will be on sale from April 15th. If anyone has any good ideas about what to include, please get in touch. Hope you can make it...
