Growth regs question

I think they have slightly different effects/modes of action and i would be wary of using more than 0.15 moddus in one go myself. I have stopped growing hybrid but I think I used a 0.1 moddus and 2lt CCC followed by canopy later on as I don't like terpal. Someone will know more than me.

Canopy is kinder than terpal (in my experience) and can be used a bit later than CCC and moddus etc. (y)

If a barley crop is looking strong I wouldn't be averse to 0.2 moddus. Probably dial back the CCC to 1 litre. I'd be careful with any herbicides in sequence though.

I like canopy. Not adverse to multiple, low doses of moddus.

3C and moddus in low doses is cheaper than the alternative named products which are generally pretty pricey and difficult to source but from one manufacturer.

I could not tell you however, it one approach was more reliable or gave better results than another. I preferred to do the canopy thing later and after other PGRs. I was not very confident in using terpal at all.

Barley can do surprising things. I once had a crop of spring barley that was really suffering in the drought and it was coming into ear and barely anywhere near the neck of my wellies. I'd previously creamed it with 1L 3C and 0.1 moddus and began to wonder if I have over cooked it earlier on. Then was had a storm of rain and the barley found some fertility and it shot up massively to around my waist. Had I known this was going to happen I would have done the terpal/canopy thing but I was too frightened that the crop was suffering already.

I'm not convinced ccc achieves an awful lot in barley. I used to use canopy plus modus at early timings in barley. Trouble was it needs some height to compete with the weeds. Can't win with the stuff. Certainly not this year.

The stuff grows like a weed. I'm not sure 3C has the same effect in barley as it does in wheat but it's like throwing sand in it's eyes so it's a good thing in my book.

Some say moddus isn’t as potent as it used to be, 1 litre ccc and 0.15-0.2 moddus on strong barley

Back when I was in college it was drilled into us that this stuff is like kryptonite for cereals- stories of barley 10 inches tall etc etc. Perhaps the dose rate was higher or something? Or maybe it was reformulated? I've put 0.2 + 0.2 on crops before and it didn't seem to shorten them for toffee- you could compare it with any misses.

One crop I did see some significant shortening in was mostly because (as I found out later) the person farming it didn't apply any nitrogen.

i used moddus and ccc on spring wheat here in Manitoba fir the first time. Very new to our type of farming but to be honest I’m intending to use it on all My wheat as i tend to push the limit with the groceries my crops get. with Pgrs being in common and relatively new there us little for advice or other farmer feedback regarding results but from what I saw in the treated wheat compared the the test strips that were left it’s well worth it. I’d be keen to take advice on evening up my wheat as the tillers tend to be later and the ears quiet small. This often lends itself to higher fusarium levels from fungicide applications targeted at the main stem but ill timed for the tillers.

there two pictures were from the same field but the lodged was untreated. Used moddus

Moddus is quite hot on the crop. 0.2 does not have twice the effect of 0.1.

If the temperatures are warm, the chlormequat will work better.
Is that warm temperatures for an hour when it’s applied, or the next day or two. If it’s applied in a morning when it’s cool but comes out sunny in an afternoon will that be ok? (genuine question, tried to make it not sound facetious)

I think that chlormequat takes a couple of hours to be adsorbed into the leaf, so ideally warm all the way but life isn't like that. I'd just get it on at the right timing and worry about the optimum conditions later. What else is in the mix? CCC used to work better with a surfactant adjuvant when applied by itself but these days with the number of other ingredients in a 2-5 way mixture, you will have plenty of oils etc with the fungicides or Moddus to help it into the plant.
