Just joined, first and only post, not viewing any other thread... makes me think of those "is this a scam site" threads.

At a quick glance, these cameras seem OK. Similar to other products, CCTV can be 'much of a muchness', though it depends what your individual requirements and concerns are, and whether the system is being used properly or not. For example:

1) Connectivity - cable, Wi-Fi, 4g, 5g - SIM costs?
2) Detection range
3) Notifications/Alerts of suspicious activity - accuracy and method
4) Intruder tracking - direct the response and gather evidence
5) Image quality/range and date time stamp for evidential value
6) Night vision - IR or thermal?
7) Weatherproof - IP67 as a minimum.
8) Data storage and retrieval - on site hard drive or subscription based cloud drive?
9) Is the CCTV sited securely or can it be disabled or stolen?
10) and so on...

CCTV alone, that is not monitored and/or alert notifications acted upon, is not the answer.

Using a 4g system here (not GMF) ok for monitoring calving cows .But will get costly if monitoring a farm yard all the time.
It's a balancing act. The CCTV system should be doing most of the work (to let you do your work, or have time off), but like with any unsupervised employee, you have to check on it a few times a day, and take notice and act when it tells you that it thinks 'somats up'.

Leaving it to do all the work and simply expecting CCTV to deter would-be intruders is not realistic.

Hi all,

As part of my BSc (Hons) Agriculture degree, I am undertaking research to find out the experiences of livestock crime and police response.

If you are a livestock owner of any type and have been impacted by livestock crime please spend 5 minutes to complete my survey.

Thank you in advance for any responses.

we are likely to add a ring door bell for our entrance so we can see when people come in, got constant cctv anyway but nothing to alert us to when someone is in who shouldn't be. Ring seemed like a simple cheap solution

Put this in the main Crime and Security Forum https://thefarmingforum.co.uk/index.php?forums/crime-link/

Your post/request will get seen by more people.

Interesting choice of topic. I'd be interested to see your results.

'Ring' has its uses, but also its limitations.

Many modern CCTV cameras/systems is integrated with motion sensors, which can alert you to presence of people in it's field of view.

If you're going to use 'Ring', consider an electro magnetic gate lock, so the person has to press the buzzer, and answer your questions before you press the remote to open the gate for them.

It all depends on your own layout and situation, so I can't answer definitively without knowing more. But give thought to the strengths and weaknesses of what you have in mind, and how to eliminate the weaknesses.

You may need more than just the 'Ring', or any CCTV. It maybe, that a locked gate is all you need.

A bit of effort getting on and off the tractor to open and close the gate is far cheaper than any super jazzy CCTV system. It might seem a buggerance, but it's actually less than a minute of your time.

I do keep saying (in different threads), procedures cost nothing. So it might be worth looking at a bit of effort over cost, for something that might not give you the desired results.

Have a think.
