You can beg to differ as much as you want,But the facts are its a one horse pony show and Clive runs the show.So for the umpteenth time Clive if you don't like the NFU step up to the plate and do summit about it instead of crying on here.

Your being very unfair there, Clive clearly has very strong views on the NFU but as far as im aware he does not stop people from posting who do not agree with his views!

TBF Quinney was very popular with members but not very popular with certain members on the council, hence why he was voted out and which was a very big shock at the time!!

a classic example of why the council should not be making these decisions - the leader should be the candidate most popular with members

I won't beg to differ then, I'll tell you straight. As far as the Forum goes, it's the members' forum and second if you think it's a one horse pony show , you're backing the wrong horse ..........

As @Clive says he posts as a member and as a farmer. I do the same :)

We would end up with Arthur Scargill or David Handley. I used to want OMOV but now I see it would end up in a disaster, most members couldn't care less who leads them and wouldn't vote. Then we might get a right idiot who would ruin the whole lot.

The present system isn't perfect but like "first past the post" it is the best we've got. Whoever is the president wouldn't make too much difference as the government don't want to listen to making food more expensive.

as long as you know better than the majority its fine - some would call that arrogance, others would call it a dictatorship or communism. I personally don't expect such politics in 21st century Britian !

While I don't agree with the above I would be intrested to know if you think the NFU should make it much more transparent and reveal to members who their county chair votes for and the reasons why they have voted for that particular person??

GUTH if the ordinary NFU members had wanted Adam to stay in his job he would still be there. I thought he was a good bloke but it seems those nearer to him didn't think the same way. Perhaps it was wearing shorts to meetings in the middle of winter that did it for him!

You also appear to be a new member, so whilst I may congratulate you on your very quickly distilled views, you might want to stick around for a bit longer to take a good look at the place a broad church with a wide range of views

Under the current system he would still not be there as quite clearly grassroots members really liked him but certain council members did not, at least 4 council members voted against him even thou they were told by their county members to vote for him!!

I know. I'm probably the NFU's smallest fan..... but this is ridiculous.

would it be better if none one ever had the balls to say anything or had an opinion about anything and we all pretended we were happy and a great job was being done by all that represented fantastic value and got great results

could you imagine if when I was a member I had actually gone to a committee meeting and said it as straight as I do on here ? Made my opinion clear for all to here , would I have been able to even say as much as I have here without being silenced, ? I think I would have been publicly flogged or stoned and been lucky to leave the building alive more likely !

It is not a dictatorship as people have votes. I vote for my county delegates and they carry the county's wishes. In Derbyshire we take these things seriously and have a debate on who we want. It is nothing to do with arrogance, most members don't give a damn and this is what is wrong.

Communism is the AHDB where you are confiscated money and it is used how the government placemen see fit.
Communism is the EU, where money is taken and spent/wasted on things approved by unelected people.

you only get to vote and then only at low level if you attend committee meetings, even then you don't know if your delegate did as you instructed ! - what about the rest (the majority) who don't go to meetings ?

in 2015 you should not need to attend committee meetings to have a say

I agree with everything you and GUTH say ironically, but surely things only need to be said once?
And yes I know, if I don't like it, I should steer clear of these topics........

Clive, I wish you were a member of our local branch or county. Your views would be respected and listened to and probably agreed with. This is where you have gone wrong, you should have stuck in and gone to meetings and told them what you thought. This is the way to get things changed, not tapping away on your keyboard.

Intresting quote from PK on a meeting he had in the SW recently!! Told that the AHDB should communicate better with levy payers ( ref the delayed beef and lamb campaign ) his reply was along the lines : that isn't my problem, if levy payers aren't happy should take it up with their board members!!

This arrogance just shows how unfit he is to be the AHDB chairman!!

Some of the reasons that members don't give a damn ( as you put it ) as they feel ( rightly or wrongly ) that their views aren't taken into account with the NFU and due to the way elections are held they don't really have any say in how the union is run at the top level!
