GYS: Yorkshire Agricultural Society Lifetime Achievement Award Derek Megginson

RABI and YAS have awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award to Driffield farmer Derek Megginson

Bill Cowling, Show Director and Carol Rymer, RABI Trustee presented the trophy to Mr Megginson who farms 1,850 acres at Eastburn and Kirkburn, East Yorkshire.

A past Chairman and President of Driffield Agricultural Society, Mr Meginson is a former judge of the YAS 's prestigious Tye Trophy Farming awards which recognise good farming practice in Yorkshire and the North East

A qualified chartered surveyor, his farming philosophy centres on managing the living soil and being an ambassador for farming with the industry by hosting open days and the "Schools Visits Week" for the last 15 years during which time over 4000 school pupils and teachers have visited the farm

A keen cyclist he has completed two international solo cycle rides; one raising £30,000 for charity around 2,050 miles in New Zealand and earlier this year 13000 miles from Rotterdam to Venice.

Webinar: Expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive offer 2024 -26th Sept

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
