You're getting very excited about something that doesnt affect you. Why do you care how other people conduct their business? Pay your bills with your magic wand if you want to, no need to belittle others, they arent stupid everyone has their reasons for doing things a certain way.

Shep, if you read that I have belittled anyone, and they felt the same way, then I would apologise to them.

You should be fair to all reasonable people, and never be rude or sarcastic, however in your case, I will make an exception.....

It really depends how much clutter you have on the table, and how easy is it to hide it :)

Have you never heard of internet banking, or having an app on your mobile phone ?
I don't see the problem with a cheque, it's sufficed for many many years now, I'm all for progression but if it isn't broke then why fix it...if some spotty little kid sat in his bedroom in America hacked into your account and emptied it you'd have a right ball ache getting it back through the bank....if people want to use a cheque then so be it, if people want to do Internet banking then so be it

The problem is they are expensive and slow. Five days to get your money in 2017! No thanks. By the the time I've driven 10 miles to find a bank I've spent 30 quid to get my own money!

Bizzarly the fact that the bank is so far away is what makes cheques better for me, but I pay by cheque, not many people pay me by cheque.

So how do most people get their market payment ? ,had a few people pay with BACS this year but its a bit of a hassle checking the account to see if its gone through .so i can put the account in the paid pile

That's what I like about cheques, I can work out what's and who's paid at the postbox.

I think this constant move to electronic banking is contributing to people living beyond their means. No one sees money as a certificate of funds anymore, just numbers on a screen.

I thought they were starting to clear next day? If I go online banking it won't show who I paid by card yesterday.

prefer using cheques here as I feel there is less chance of fraud , do use cards when I have too . local company bosses had £120000 taken out of there personal bank accounts a few weeks ago and they are far from being a stupid couple but these things do happen and I feel on line banking and banking with mobile phone does not give me the security I feel happy with .

My wife and mum have been telling me to get a credit card, but I refuse so my wife got one for the farm. I can't see any benefit and had a card charge for £32 last month (n). But that's progress.

should use a credit card for purchases , have one but use paypal most of the time . when using paypal I log my card details to pay for a purchase then delete the card details as soon as I use paypal . know of a couple people who have had paypal accounts hacked .

My accountants don't take card payments and they are a reasonably screwed on firm, but do bacs or cheque ok. I don't mind how people pay me, or how I pay bills I can accommodate most things. In our house there are things that tend to always be paid by cheque but they tend to be the bigger bills like the land rent, and livestock and fertiliser. At the end of the day we are only discussing a method of payment of which I'm all to happy to accept in any form, I have even taken a pony in lieu of a debt. long story short it turned out a very good deal for hooby.

I've got to go to the bank today because I haven't been able to access my account online for the past week after spending what seems a lifetime on the phone to them!
