Ended up in the 13’s but called it a day as tired and wanted an early finish

We're going to get this block done and then see what time it is when we move. It's drier than yesterday night, so hopefully will start drier in the morning. Straw looks terrible - probably not fully dead. No roundup this year and it's showing.

Started at 10, moved twice, stopped to adjust elevator chain and refuel, now wondering whether to refuel myself or go for a hero shift. Cut 53 acres so far but need to get to at lead 60 before I call it a day.

been along hard day for us here and still going moisture below 14 for most of day but with a bit of greenery from trees , in field pipeline manholes and hedge backs a nuisance but hopefully spears will sort. By morning when and if we can tip the last trailers we will be out of storage space under cover and on concrete main grain store is 15ft usually 12 ish , and thats with some gone. looks like we may have to build a temporary store in the earth floor straw shed or outside big bales plastic sheet and hope for the best until the next lot moves in oct. Its a problem but one im enjoying trying to solve.and still got a fair bit to cut

Went to help a friend harvest some Mulika planted in February today. He told me it was on some land that hadn’t been cropped for several years, had had 69 units of N and no fungicide. Then added it is a tad on the steep side.
The photos don’t do the steepness justice. Had to cut it all anti-clockwise and no unloading on the move.
Then there were the wet spots!
Yielded about 2 tons

I honestly didn’t think a non hillside Combine could do it and that a two wheel drive one could climb hills that steep!
The hydrostatic oil overheated several times and my ears were popping due to the altitude drop on the way down.

Edit:
I forgot to add that I now know why Combines have independent brakes and a diff-lock!

How do you know the hydro was overheating?

When it gets over 95c, it warns me. Got up to 99 several times. Had to start off with an empty tank at the bottom, then by the time I got to top it was overheating. Didn’t cool down much by the time I got to the bottom, even though it was downhill, because of using the hydro as a brake. So I shut down to idle while unloading to get it cool enough to start another round.

See I was spot on. Clive would be thinking on how to spent it all.

I once saw a system at HR Bourne’s that was very good.
So one conveyer down the side of shed ( ie long ways ) then one under it ( short ways ) on rails. The short conveyor has an open bottom so the grain drops in, till it rises to the conveyor. Then moves across the building till it’s full. Then the conveyer moves forward either on a sensor or manual on a hand held.
The result is a shed loaded from above with no compaction, perfectly level to the base of the cross conveyor.

Would be top job in your set up if you used above floor round ducting. But not for pedestals.

At Bourns they had below floor vents.

It could work well for you.

Our system is like the above but we have a belt down the middle of the shed and then a cross conveyer that leaves a 5m level fill. We use upright pedestals for cooling.

Ha, mine was doing that today, it warns you at anything over 90 GNNS hydro temp!!
What settings are you using for your mulika?? I am doing some here and have struggled to get a decent sample, tried everything but still getting some chaff in the sample.

Few pics from yesterday afternoon/evening, managed to cut 40acres of skyfall in 5 fields so not bad going. Yields nothing to shout about but happy enough, moisture got down to 11.9 before the dew dropped, finished at 13.5%.
Was nice to see some but I’m not sure the locals where to impressed?

Still plenty of dust into the evening.

Finished the field and called it a night at half 10.

The chaff won’t release from the grain, prob not that fit. We had the same here. But a huge amount came out in the batch dryer. It is now 80 kg/hl Protein 15%

On mine, the hydrostatic motor temperature is shown on Run Screen 5. The Alarm goes off at 95c but stays on until it gets down to 90c.

Mulika is a sod to thrash, just like Avalon used to be! It takes the top three ear grains and its chaff off as one.

I find the only way to get a sample is run the drum speed at 950 and the concave at 10 or 11mm. Also keep the fan speed well up to 950 and don’t be afraid to have the returns trumpet showing more than usual by keeping the bottom sieve a little tighter that other wheats.
