Anyone else struggling to get motivated for harvest?
Usually I can’t wait to get going but this year I can’t get excited. I’ve got winter barley for the first time in 20 years but it looks rubbish! It’s Tardis and I’ll be lucky if it does 2.5t/acre. Looked awful with bydv, the ears are small, the grain looks pinched and it doesn’t even have that nice golden look! We keep getting small showers coming through which I’m using an excuse to leave the combine in the shed!
I'll just have to watch the test match instead … I hope rain doesn’t stop play at Headingly. Come on England!
Yup ,older I get less urge to start, dad always took the lead in deciding when it was fit, last 6 yrs it's been up to me as he is no longer here

Started on Saturday at 15.8%, didnt take long to get below 15%, doing just over 3.5t/a. California and cassia work well for us.
on again yesterday but looks an on/off week ahead and expect to use the drier a lot.
That barley looks a bit like mine. Why is it the sodding stuff goes from barely ripe to falling over so quick?! Spring barley is worse.

I can’t be arsed to read the whole thread but I assume the farming pundits in the various publications are claiming the usual disapointing 15 ton/ha crops all sold off the field for malting at 13% moisture?
Agronomist was saying out of his customers there was one with 8.9t/ha @12.5% (over a weigh bridge) most of the others are around the 6.5t mark. He reckoned a lot were caught out by how dry it was, 20mm of rain Sat will soon sort that out. No WB for myself, just WW and SB. He reckoned some will be in OSR next week, weather permitting
