Finished winter barley at the weekend (thank goodness) as I'm fed up of looking at it, not weighed or anything but maybe 1.25 -1.5 tonnes /acre for 140 acres, straw done 2.9 bales acre (4'4 round) Total sh!te completely fed up by it.

Ours returned 5.5 bales an acre, but I know what you mean, the price of the grain is also shite. I’m wondering trying more 2nd wheat

They can have some of mine at £129. Was told £120 here. I suggested they may like to "f right off".
I sold some to a local farmer and charged £140. He paid with a long face, but I’d been and weighed it and was providing the trailer . he wouldn’t get a merchant to sell him any at that price.

Just finished combining my neighbouring pig farmers barley. It yielded surprisingly well of grain, although next to no straw. It had a very late application of pig slurry by umbilical . I couldn’t believe they were doing it, as it was coming into ear and the tractor was having to drive between tramlines, but it seems to have paid off. Maybe the slurry gave it a drink as well as a feed.

we havnt cut ours yet wb ( not ripe) nor have I been to the pub since march, but am" going "wednesday or thursday and reckon from what my pals are saying 2.7 t will be enough with the best bits i.e those with 8 bales of straw /ac just over 3 but will mention that we are still to get final weights ( by which time will be into wheat )so no need to push it too far ,been looking at it for the last 6 months and if it does above 2.5 I will be fecking amazed and no more than 1.2 t of straw at best

The winter barley has surprised me, not a lot of straw and from 6.5 to 9t/ha, depending on variety and field /soil . Kingsbarns best but was on best field, mountain and libra ok, Sunningdale poorer and a poor sample.

our wb is not yet ready , and yet those further north are well on and those to the south are all but finished ,this weekend waiting for next week is going to be a challenge to get through .I cant even have an away day or two in the lake district where I cant see a combine going to relieve the tension and stop us cutting just to get it in the shed

All these high yields are just talking down prices.
Rape did half a ton. Wheats doing under two ton.
dont think there are many talking high yields fw excepted ,though some are reporting an average year though not including the non cropped bits but most seem to be well below average osr and cereals none of which is their fault just the weather

Skyfall today.... drilled with a PH/drill combo instead of the Vaddy in absolutely atrocious conditions in mid Nov. I honestly didn't think it would make a crop in early March. Headlands are half a crop, straight work is a crop. Coming in at sub 16% even with the greens, a surprising bushel weight of 84! yield just knocking 3 tonne/acre so all in all a result given minimal spend and the season!! Bugger all straw though!

Story of my OSR.
Drilled last August, mowed around 35% in April/may and baled + wrapped it.
Combined remainder today.
Had around 30tonnes off 40 acres harvested. Best field 6 acres did around 7 tonnes.
Worst field 14 acres did around 7 tonnes!
Pleased it’s in the shed, I will not be bothering with rape next year.

on the flip side, I grow around 250 acres of winter wheat per year and this autumn I will drill around 200 acres of first wheat. Hopefully this will manifest into a shed full of wheat next summer!
