Hopefully make a start this week.
Never grown before, any tips??

Cut with moisture between 16%-20%?
Unload on tickover?
Speed?

What is safe long term storage moisture? Will be going into neighbours store.

Do them overnight or early morning. Lift reel, lift auger, push knife out if vario, open concave, slow drum/rotors, flat out fan, open bottom sieve, use top sieve for sample. Very much depends on the crop, are they tall and tangled or 8" high podded to the floor? Upright knife??

Although my problem will be the World Class crop of fat hen that is concealing the bean plant.
They take some drying, so try and get them as dry as possible .
I was just talking to the neighbour - who's gonna store - about that. He has got 150ac and is in not hurry.
Twice round the dryer to get them down?

So the idea is to cut them dry and use the damp of morning/night to stop cracking?
They were fair tall between top has bent over. Still 3/4ft high but podded quite low.
Di have a side knife. Required or recommended?

My son has 400 acres to do. When I grew them, if I dried them at too high heat in my old masters drier, they would bake on the outside , but still be moist inside and the overall moisture could easily go back up .

Best to use a long divider if you’ve got one, instead of a side knife.

See if you can get hold of a a pair of grated returns and clean grain elevator bottoms and also the cross auger bottoms, which will let all the fat hen seeds out, but retain the beans.
Absolutely brilliant if you can get them!

They are an absolute bugger to dry without cracking them. Very slow to warm too.
Master recommend lowering the auger shroud to stop the auger moving them round too fast.

I think I have a slotted straw elevator bottom for a 6 walker TX/TF 46/78 in the back of the shed. Could have a look if interested.

Another thing NH did for the TF and TX ranges was the slotted straw elevator bottoms (which have the non slotted bit that fits over the top). Very good, bit not all the Weed seeds are threshed on the header and some will still hit the drum.

You are over thinking the cracking I think. We do in the morning so they don’t ping every where when the knife touches them not for any other reason.
