done nearly 6,000 so far about 2,000 more to go, all made well so far, last year had it all in the shed by 29 june, 2012 we were still doing first cut in sept and still sold it all to horsey set, plenty of time yet, I find july hay keeps better than june hay as some of the leaf has gone by mid july ant its the leaf that turns to dust
how much kit to get the ground covered that quick?

horsey folk want it like straw
Some do, some dont very few actually know what the feck they do want and even less what good hay is.

Use front/ rear mowers, a lely four rotor stabilo to turn, a 6mtr double rake, that saves me hours of work compared to the single rake, got a NH570 baler which goes like a train, much better than the previous 570 that I sold before last season, not sure why tho, then stack in 48 to haul back, have sold nearly1500 straight into people rest is in my barn, do it virtually all myself, at least now it only takes three turnings to dry it unlike beginning of june when it takes many more, to be honest was glad the weather got dodgy as I was knackered by last wk, must be getting old:(
Also done 60 big squares for my livery and 230 odd ist and 2nd cut haylage that @Vernon and his dad bale and wrap for me.
Should get some more second cut of the early hay ground and some third cut from the westerwolds for cow feed

Yes it is the hauling that takes the time and then stacking in the barn

the green hay thing is like shiny red apples in the supermarket, it's about visual appeal rather than anything else. I suppose the thinking is that once hay has been rained on it starts to lose it's colour. With most hosey people it's usually what the owner likes not the horse.

On the other hand we've moved away from the native breeds that could make a decent fist of converting less rich fodder into decent milk and meat. Galloways, Angus and Herefords have been replaced by Charolais and Limousin whilst Holsteins have replaced Ayrshires

Very nice looking load FT.

Going by the comments it must be patchy around the country. Round here some fields have turned into salvage jobs, won't take much longer before its a case of getting the stuff off to save the sward, thankfully we haven't got anything cut at the moment.

It's been dreadful around here ceredigion for making hay although large crops of good silage and haylage have been harvested and grass is bulking up well for 2cd cuts, can't see anything being short

Done about 75 acres so far, about 45 to go, approx 4500 small bales, and 200 80x50 bales, which equals another 1000 smalls. All in good condition, not used a drop of additive so far. Lovely green stuff, far better than last when I was still cutting at the end of July and the grass was getting pretty ropey. Just knocked down another 15 acres which I hope to get by the weekend. Need about another 1500 smalls and 200 80x50s to cover all my regular customers, anything beyond that will be a bonus.

Made 440 bales of lovely stuff in small bales a few weeks ago but it's a bit loose stringed.

Then Made another 240ish last week which got soaked after baling. Got it in yesterday, half stacked half still on the trailer just in case I need to move it out again quick! 24 bales sat in puddles and didn't dry so have dumped those, but fingers crossed the rest is ok. Will be checking it obsessively to make sure it doesn't heat....
Still got another 20 acres to do but not going to panic yet... Need a break from the stress of making it too!
Just place on the floor of a bullocks shed and cut string's on you 24 wet bale's rather than dump?

You're probably right , but it's not asking much to string 4 decent days together in JULY
Horse people only want the best, I drove up to 600 miles a day last year looking for it visiting sometimes 20 farms a day, you risk your trade on the fact that you may get a weeks warm weather in July, haveing said that there are some that have magical fingers when making hay and always get it right,
