What would be the preference for a new heating oil tank?
Steel or Plastic ?
You hear of a few plastic tanks splitting or being easily broken is it better to pay more at installation for a steel tank?

My mate had an plastic oil tank on a newish built house, pathetic depth of foundations on oil tank stand let the slabs settle twisting the tank, UV light weakened the tank and it cracked, oil slowly squirting out over his lawn.
We rubbed a bar of soap over the crack and it stopped the leak, I pumped oil out into my fuel bowser, then I set friend on digging the polluted soil away. That's when we discovered the total lack of foundations.
The inside of his house had an oily scent for quite a while.

But if supported properly and protected from full sun a plastic tank is fine. My dad's is 22 years old and after the mentioned leak at mates house,we got it looked at its ok

No way I’ll have plastic again,my main diesel tank sort of slumped and cracked,I was walking past and could smell diesel so luckily pumped it out.
