I bought these steers the other day at market assuming the where hereford to be fair they are quite well grown (12months) I had a look at the passport only to notice that I knew the breeder, he keeps dexter cows and puts them to a Hereford bull, Paid £500 for the pair , any idea how much weight they would be at 24 month dw?

Shouldn’t they have totally white faces if by a Hereford bull. Thought it was a dominant gene. They look cheap enough anyway

Has anybody here ever fattened a dexter x steer? Any chance of them making 250kg dw?

Yes to both - not by a Hereford but by Galloway and Angus bulls they made 270Kg off grass and grass alone although we killed them at just under 30 months, 27 for the AAX

They will fatten fine although you will have no concerns about going overweight and if you are good to them they will hang up not too far away from 300Kg.

We killed a pure Dexter a few weeks ago at 240Kg.

If you have a local butcher market they should bite your hand off to get them

Thanks, so tbf they are as profitable as any large cow when crossing. I have a American style grill who used to buy lambs of me 3 lambs a week was not profitable enough for me but a steers is totally different I suppose.
