Hogg with flystrike

I've a hogg with a nasty case of flystrike. The wound is not deep but covers a fairly sizeable area and there's maggots crawling everywhere.

I clipped around the area yesterday and gave her antibiotics and metacam after scrapping off the visible maggots.

Problem is today she is again covered in maggots.

What is the best treatment?
I'm thinking :

Hibiscrub the whole area
Hose down with water
Apply iodine
Spray with teramycin
Put 'Spot On' on the surrounding wool.

She's pretty bad and a valuable sheep.

You mention you've clipped around the area, but has she been fully sheared sjewart? When they're as bad as this there's often maggots lurking in areas that don't appear struck.

No.

We'll hopefully be sheared within the next week to fortnight.

Personally crovect / ectofly is what I use (I guess that’s what is being referred to as spot-on in posts above).

You have to clip wool from a big area around the strike as the maggots may have travelled.

An old hird once told me that they travel towards the heart!

Because the maggots travel along the skin their activities may not be as visible as the original fly strike patch.

Once all maggots are exposed, hit with ectofly, but be careful not to spray too much of anything like that on to open wounds.

Before you do that, cut your finger, then put some iodine on it. Then think what that would feel like over a big patch.

Personally, I'd get her clipped, even with hand shears before you put anything else on.

Get her sheared off asap , i know a lot will disagree with this, but i just don't trust any fly strike treatments to get rid of maggots, they have a habit of shifting to another part of the sheep, i've never lost a ewe because i've sheared them off !

With only a few ewes I have to wait until it suits the shearer. Can't Crovect as they will all be sheared soon. But I think Spot On is safe enough to use on her.

Will hand clip as best I can.

You'll need to keep a very tight eye on her, the only two methods i would trust to get rid of all maggots on a flystruck sheep would be plunge dipping or shear them off, can you not load her up and take her somewhere to get her sheared ?

Yes I think I can get her hand clipped. Is she better kept inside?

This was her yesterday before I clipped, jagged her etc. Being a hogg of course her fleece is thickest. There was a twiggy thing stuck in her wool at the dirty site so I think it must have grazed the skin and in the flies went.

Has she been lame in that front right foot ? I've found they often get maggots behind the shoulder having had maggots in there foot ,
