Been buying Cheviot Hoggs the last 3 weeks but we've had 5 died. We'll probably dose next week as we move them to fresh grazing as we normally do, should we start doing them sooner or is the reason more likely to be weather related or some other reason?
Often get the odd one soon after arrival and usually put it down to pasteurella, just 2 today that set alarm bells ringing. If 5 have died and it is worms........then get them wormed tomorrow, not next week !!
If you don't know why they are dying then get a pm done. Don't rule out pasteurella. The stress of moving them can
bring it on.
yes, it's a no brainer really. Thanks for the replies so far, maybe need a post mortem.
I would go on this but most people I know buy stores will dectomax, fluke, worm and trace element in the pen at the Mart before their on the lorry heading home. Also you shouldn't worm when you move them, that's bad practice for resistance. Worm a few days after movie so the new pasture is infected with both resistant and non resistant eggs.

Not for quarantining new sheepAlso you shouldn't worm when you move them, that's bad practice for resistance. Worm a few days after movie so the new pasture is infected with both resistant and non resistant eggs.

Could be acute fluke with all the wet like...Pm is first port of callFluke
That's correct for a quarantine procedure. They should then be turned onto dirty pasture at home but not treated when moving onto 'clean' ground once home.I would go on this but most people I know buy stores will dectomax, fluke, worm and trace element in the pen at the Mart before their on the lorry heading home.
