l was taught a cow had to be a triangular shape, good width, and a bloody big mouth, so it could shovel in large quantities of food. From about 1965ish. It isn't really that far away from today's, only we have loads of facts and figures to tell us that, now.I agree, breeding lower stature, higher constituent holsteins here, got to be more feed efficient if a small cow produces the same MS.
RE narrow cows, stature and width are related to overall size, so if a bull is small he will have lower stature and lower width. That does not mean he's narrow though, unless the width is more minus than the stature. As best I understand it.
