Home grown spuds yield rubbish this year

Grew a couple rows of 'Golden Wonder' as usual left it too late and had to order what they had. The plants are healthy but the spuds in general are small (so many tiny) and the yield per plant small. The weeds are enormous too. What has caused this failure lack of water? Poor earthing up or period of drought? The soil is really good and laid a layer of compost in bed.

A lot of digging for a small crop. Im sweating like mad today doing this.

Bit early to be digging golden wonder. If they haven't died back I'd leave them at least a month. They aren't a big cropper but make up for it in taste.

King Edwards for me this year have been a disaster as the slugs have had a field day. Thankfully the Desiree have been excellent without the slug problem. Surprised I managed to get anything with it being so wet for so long.

Garden always gets neglected o ear harvest time. Still digging sharps express. Small but they are new potatoes. Plenty of blight about. A rabbit has even dug a burrow under the carrot row which is swamped in nettles anyway. There's always next year.
