looking mint! First run of any new project is always an exciting time!
Thanks Pete, its a subject ive no knowledge on, did the old Land Drive spreaders have a specific lorry axle, something quite rare? I would guess that an axle with the biggest possible reduction ratio would be best ,to reduce the tourqe loading on the driveline?
Any pictures pete sounds an interesting piece of kitI still have the old spreader. I'm reasonably sure the axle is a Leyland commercial and there are two Bedford transfer boxes underneath it to get the right ratios for the 1056.
Dad bought the tractor in June 1991. A friend called him from the Royal Show to say there was just the spreader he needed on a stand. John Mowbray of Land Drive was there with two spreaders. This one was, if I recall correctly, made for an MF 3080 but the order was cancelled. Dad saw it and told John the tractor model. He came home and that evening we worked out the wheel to pto shaft ratio and next day John worked out what he had to do. Then Dad threw a spanner in the works by saying if things had to be changed was there any chance of fitting bigger wheels on the spreader- the old flotation wheels from the MF 290. John worked out that if he fitted two Bedford transfer boxes it would be perfect. It was delivered a week or two later all ready to go, a totally unique build complete with Cole telescopic boom and clamshell bucket.
At the National Lime Spreading Demonstration in Yorkshire the next spring, (wettest day ever known to man, bloody awful) everyone agreed it was the best machine on the field. It was superb to use.
Erm... have you seen them in another threadDon't be encouraging him ..............
