Hey all , has anyone constructed their own home made sheep slat system ?

If so do you please have some pictures and what materials did you use ?

I am planning to make my own but would like to hear of other peoples experiences etc before doing it to make sure i construct ones that operate as intended and keep the sheep clean and healthy.

Thanks.

Wooden ones or mesh, the wooden ones aren't suitable for lambing on because when the lamb is born it's legs go down between the gap. The mesh ones are hard to keep clean because the sheep drag the silage in to them. Round bale silage would be the worst, it would help if the silage was precision chopped.

Are you putting them over a tank or just raised of the floor?
I winter my ewes on wire mesh raised 18 inches of the floor.
I feed dry chopped bale silage. They have to pull it through 3 inch wire mesh and that helps to keep the slats clean.
Plastic slats would be the best option of all but they are more expensive although they will last longer. Plastic usually work out around 1.5 times the price of the wire mesh

Raised up of the floor. Nothing fancy.
Thanks
