Nice looking tines,a bit like on the Amazone tine drill exp with less give in hard conditions.
Would it be hard to move the tines a bit closer together on your CO drill for drilling cereals without blocking in high straw situations if you run the above tine/opener in all crops Mr Mole?.

Surely they will be too wide for cereals, would of thought the Dutch counters that ajd has on his new 12 m Sprinter would be more universal. They look good for OSR though and can see the benefit in owning 2 sets of counters.

Yes very similar to the Amazon and I haven't had any problems in hard areas getting it to stay in the ground,25 cm to wide no I don't think so the biggest area of our wheat was drilled with a seedhawk at the same row space as the above picture shows we also had ww drilled with the Horsch on 5" wide A blades from Bougaut after topdown and didn't see any difference in yield on the combine so all our crops will be drilled on 25 cm row space cause if you don't move the ground the weeds have less cause to grow.when a second hopper is fitted fert will go down the same tube,I've got a small seed unit to fit as its wet so I could drill osr and fert or osr and slug pellets or even ww /wb and slug pellets.lots to try.

I like the Dutches, it's just a roll pin to change between the 1inch and 5inch points. All the seed pipe and liquid fert set up stays in place. The 1 inch hardly disturbs anything even at 15kph

A Horsch CO tine resets at around 125kg and a Sprinter at 250kg. Wonder if the cheaper CO drill will be ok for DD. Guess ok on 12mm points but more risk on 125mm 5" A foot.

That's actually one of the reasons why I changed my co for a sprinter, the tines was bouncing out on the clay and putting the seed too deep on the sand. In a min till it's not a problem but unless you have very consistent fileds it will give some challenges in dd.

I have heard that the nuts on the spring rods on a CO 'classic' shank can be tightened to increase the trip force - "within reason". Does anyone know the minimum safe spring length?

We have been successful with DD using Bougaut points and these new Metcalf ones did try with duets once that's why we changed.spring length is down to common sense to tight and they won't work properly cause they won't twist on the holder when drilling headlands.

What sort of hp would you need on the front of a 6m CO with the Metcalf/solo points on heavy but reasonably flat ground please?

I think the weight / hp is more important. My little 6930 is 7000 Kg and 205 hp and it struggles to get grip if it's steep and heavy. It's just too light to transfer the hp even at the lowest tyre pressure possible.
I think 9000-1000 kg and 250 hp would be perfect for a 6 meter.
