just had a call from my agronomist who lives close by saying 3 horses riding round crops.finally caught them and they said they thought they could ride on margins after they been cut.what is it with people thinking they can do as they please.they even stepped over a 2ft diameter log to gain access.id have thought that would have been a clue that they were not wellcome.all gateways that we use either have gates or tree trunks in them to stop access to people.we have even had a van parked over night in one fields when I moved a tree trunk to let spraying contractor in too.woukd not be as bad if anyone asks permission but people taking liberties really annoy me.at least I caught them and despite me bollocking them they were very apologetic.

Had a professional dog walker (how that became a career is beyond me) walked 3 big Great Dane types about 3/4 mile down a track to a field of newly emerged carrots. Then proceeded to let them of the leads and they took off across the beds chasing each other. I’m quite a calm person but was fizzing by time I got there. She then tried to lecture me on track maintenance. One of the few times I’ve sworn at a stranger. Unbelievable.

Where I am we have a right of way which is also a road we took the fences down either side as they were rotten all of a sudden all the horse riders though the stubble on either side was there personal gallop an that year was wet and they were making a hell of mess, one of them was going around telling the rest the fences were down so they could gallop up the stubbles

I've had them riding up and down tramlines here!

What they don't seem to get is that the semi-circular horseshoe prints left behind is rather a clue that they've been doing it!

We have two women from a local horsey place who swear blind to me that they thought they were on person X's land. I've told them they are wrong; please leave and don't come back. They come back every year.

And one old dear was adamant that the owner has given her permission. Didn't seem to believe I was the owner. Sigh.

Normally when you go to speak to people trespassing, No matter how politely you go about it, Their first response is 'right to roam', then miserable farmers before walking away from you cursing you with them carrying on exactly as before.
So you did well getting an apology!

I advised a villager for not keeping on a public right of way , she reported me to the police who rang me up in relation to a ‘public order offence’ , I now film every encounter with these folks .

At least(for now) you guys can do something about it.
With right to roam up here you just have to grin & bear it.
It's a right of 'responsible access'. They MUST follow the Access Code.

I thought horses were only allowed on Byways or Bridleways south of the border?

I’m not polite at all.have been lots of times in the past asking people to remove dog sh!t on foot paths and ask cyclists not to use foot paths,as they make a mess, ramblers complain to council about cut up footpaths in winter and then the council comes to me and I get told of and I can’t do anything about it.had a rambler in my yard 3 months ago started looking in buildings.he was about 70,clad in Lycra and at least 400 metres from footpath.he got a severe bollocking to and he complained to parish council about my language.i got plenty of support there too but did cause some amusement.this problem will only get worse too.also got a couple of lads on moto cross bikes who go where they want making lots of mess but they are impossible to catch.

We rent a couple of fields right next to town that are a nightmare these days, they are due to be built on next year which might mean some will be trying out our land as we are the other side of the village these fields also border, I allow walkers to use the grass strips the deliveries use instead of the footpaths which all but two fields we have contain, 99% of the time this works well and everybody is happy but always the odd knob that needs both barrels

It is not right to roam. They have "the right of responsible access "
They still get a row here if they are not being responsible!

True, but a lot of them are chancers that need that row more than once.

Point I was trying to get at is I can see the day coming where England has them same right of access laws under the guise of measures for Public good.
The power as to who can ride on uncropped field margins could be with the horse rider then.
