How is the forum run?

Is it run as a private enterprise by Clive? Or as a separate company?

Will we get to see the financial figures on how the forum performs?

No secrets, no problem with anyone asking

its a limited company - it has to be so I don't get sued and loose my farm ! (and a few have threatened and tried already) As a limited company accounts will be published

at the moment we have £16.79p in the bank ! its owes me and Jake at the moment as we have funded everything from our own pockets so far, when we start to get some ad revenue in (only had paid ads a month yet) plan is to invest into a lot of extra features and improvements that have been asked for

Sometimes less is more clive, maybe the odd little tinker here and there but the bare bones are good, not many forums i come back to in the morning and have 20 tabs open to catch up (y)

don't worry, no plans to inflict rubbish on you or change too much- we have had a lot of requests for a better classified system that is more searchable, by category, geographically and by makes models etc, maybe even an auction function - that's the main plan along with a front page that will come quite soon with some member and industry written articles, popular threads but still in a forum interactive style. I also think a market data page might be of use with live updated grain prices and news and maybe better weather - all things many farmers need to refer to daily I guess

also plan to be at cereals this year so members can maybe get together - should have our own little stand all being well which I think judging from previous show threads might be appreciated ?

we also need to keep upgrading the sever behind all this - TFF popularity is not without some technical problems to make sure all cam come - last night there was over 1000 online at points !

It wont happen overnight though and if you don't like things we will listen and will soon put things back

Why do you ask? Why does anybody need to see any financial figures?
What business are the finances to anybody other than those who are paying for it?
Would you like all members to reveal their finances before they post on here?
As far as I can tell it is a private business that provides an excellent service to its contributors, and does that free of charge.
If Clive and Jake eventually make some money out of it then bloody good luck to them.

I'd also like to add that the Mods give of their time for free ;)(y)

This place is brilliant, well done to Clive and Jake for all their hard work and long may it continue hopefully without constant hounding from the moaners, who else on here had the initiative to set up such a popular forum using their own funds for so long?

Popular websites aren't cheap to run, I hope 1 day the people who funded this place will see return on their investment, why should we begrudge them that?

Because there was such a huge fuss made by some members on BFF about the fact that Blue was pocketing so much advertising cash and how it was wrong that the finances were kept so secret.

So I was hoping Clive would follow through on his promises to make the financial side more open.

I think the difference was that Kevin was pocketing all the cash from the site whilst doing sod all to maintain / improve it for the last 5 years, hence why it was hacked into numerous times, the content was lost numerous times and not very many people were able to join (no one with free email addresses, no Irish people, and the initiation process still took 12 months).

This place on the other hand has been nurtured from the start and so far nothing has been too much work for the guys running it to get sorted out. TFF seem to have put on a noble legal fight with Nationwide, QF Tractors and others which I cannot imagine comes cheaply!! (Or do you think these companies just backed down quietly?)

They deserve all the support we can give them because they are doing a damn good job for UK ag plc!

The main thing is that the whole thing runs at no cost to members or visitors, has minimum intervention from mods, provides a platform for free speech for all who care to post, and is linking farming folk from all over the world with their points of view for all to share. How about yesterday we had Santosh in India talking to Bliathlin (sp?) in Canada, how great is that!

Well I for one would like to congratulate you on a job well done. I have only just recently made the move from the BFF and can honestly say I really love the place. Not that anybody couldn't already tell by the amount of posting I have done.

keep up the good work.

This is the first forum I've really participated in- it took a while to build up the confidence to submit my first post but now enjoy put in my tuppence worth now and again. So much so my wife says I spend more time talking on here than I do talking to her!!! If someone makes a quid for their hard work setting things up and running it then so be it. Farming can be a lonely profession and to some folk a forum like this may their only bit of interaction with other humans on some days. Keep up the good work and I look forward to the forum developing in the future.

Well as long as the mods don't go popping private messages up for all to see like on another forum, I think all behind the scenes are stars.

I think the approach here is spot on, and everything is done to encourage new members.

With smart phones and tabs, it's never been better to easier to contribute.

I remember years ago on BFF, reading posts (probably Clive or Lee) which the just typed from the smart phone from their combine. I was stuck to my laptop and was amazed by the concept, and looked at my nokia 6610 in disgust!

5 years from now??

Even a brief perusal of the accounts of another forum and the eyewatering margin seem to suggest that Clive and Jake are hardly packing bags for a holiday in the Caymans. http://www.ocra.com/jurisdictions/caymanislands.asp?gclid=CPXo0rqiyLwCFVDLtAodiGsAVQ
So despite Mr Head and Bernie we can rest easy knowing that our team will emerge from the winter with the new over boosted bit of kit no doubt in Class green. Sponsored by us all here.:):):hilarious:
