How long until you start legal action?

I don’t think you lot understand, I could loose half a day calling round these jobs, at the moment we just don’t have the time, we have a hedgecutter running flat out and I’m part of the 4 man fencing team, Sunday is reserved all day for seeing jobs and moving sheep. So it’s much easier to delegate the job to the professionals
I dont understand you,if youve done the work then call round and get your money
Saying your too busy to chase monies owed sounds wrong

I think from now on, on month 3 of owing cash it’ll have to go to the debt collectors. I can’t think of a reason not to apart from people thinking I’m a money hungry turd, but I’d rather have that rep than the laid back pay me when you feel approach I must subconsciously give out.
I wouldn’t mind so much if someone is genuinely hard up with a cash flow issue but not when the cruise past in the flash 4x4 giving the royal wave whilst spilling caviar down there double chin.

At the moment people think you aren't bothered. Better to think you will take action if not paid, the non payers won't ask for work they won't pay for then!

It would surely be a profitable day though?

Not in my eyes, the profit in the job you are chasing is declining the longer you wait for your cash, and every hour I’m off the job not earning it’s more out of the bottom line, running about is a waste of fuel and time, if it takes me an hour it’s cost me more than the £3 to start legal proceedings and let’s them know I’m sick of there crap

Another vote for small claims court, fill in the forms online, pay the fee, get judgement awarded against them if they don't pay, they will get a letter from the court warning them of the consequences of not settling the debt (bad credit score etc) frightens most into paying up as it upsets their credit cards etc

Only takes a few minutes to do online

But if the job your putting your head below your arse for today for is worth £1000 and the job your owed for six months ago is worth £1000 the result is £0

It wouldn't take all morning on a visit.. one visit a week to a customer put point across.. this is how it is etc.

I've just been watching, "The sheriffs are coming". All I need now is a debtor!

What about contractors who won't send a bill...until months later when I've forgotten to budget for it. Almost as bad as bad payers!:(

Another vote for the small claims court.
You can download them of the internet. I think there is even a template letter to send to the debtor prior to sending the forms in.
The letter did the trick for us. It showed the debtor that we ment business and he turned up with a cheque 2 days after we posted the letter. We had been waiting 8 months for payment and had heard every excuse under the sun.
Good luck @ARW

This works. I called with some slow paying tenants the day before Christmas Eve and explained that if they didn’t cough up I’d ‘help’ them to move out in the morning.
First response was that they were skint, but after I explained that if I was going to have a rubbish Christmas because of them, then they could have a rubbish Christmas because of me... suddenly they found £1000 under the bed!!
Merry Christmas! ;)
A dangerous stupid game , had they gone to the Police you could have ended up doing time, fact.
