How much do agricultural machinery sales people get paid

A tip for aspiring sales reps. Do not take on the burden of service and repair on your shoulders. Any customer that rings in any mood about a breakdown, be sympathetic but cut it short and refer them to your service department. Ditto with accounts. Don’t get involved with collecting overdue debts. This keeps any animosity well away from your relationship with your customer. These are not your jobs unless you are paid a handsome salary rather than a commission.
Every Company I've worked for has always depended at some point on me chasing overdue money as part of my remit

If you have the knack, and are willing, fine. You are wasting sales time and risking jeopardising your relationship with the customer though. The days of gathering a debt and coming away with a deal for two extra tractors and a mower are probably gone.

Probably one of the most prolific reps in the UK in his time, Alan Rogers of Riverlea, never collected debts or got involved with service or repair calls. Riverlea had other departments that dealt with those.

Management always took the view that a relationship with a customer would likely be better preserved by me calling for debt after accounts payable had done a few routine calls

If you have seen recent news, you should be aware that agriculture is an industry very much in decline. Groundscare may be more steady if you can get your head in.
Contacts are essential along with the ability to close deals.
Thank you for your responses I have read them all and you have given some very helpful feedback I really appreciate that and will take it on board. Yes I’m fully aware how much agriculture is struggling at the moment. I’m on the buying machinery side for my own use now and in recent years the increasing prices of machinery is definitely unsustainable to the point I think the manufacturers are getting greedy and thinking that there is money ware there simply isn’t any.

Well if you went by "HuntForest Group,s "yards near here you would not think so . New Tractors e.t.c. jammed in like sardines. Millions of pounds worth of stock. I dont know who is buying it.:scratchhead:

You need to take look on company house at some of the big dealerships profit & turn over
I worked for one of the biggest jd dealers in the country (Ben burgess ) I still have friends there. I worked for the second biggest agco dealers again I still have friends there. I have friends that work for Kuhn the biggest machinery manufacturers currently selling into uk. I repeat. None of their area managers are making £100k (that’s six figures ) bonus. None!

Maybe not as many buying as you think, otherwise they would not be on their yard. It’s very easy to overstock when keen dealers usually order for stock in order to facilitate quick customer availability, when they read the market too optimistically in a bear market. Suddenly their yard fills up with orders for stock they can’t cancel and they have to use stocking finance and can’t move used stuff to the trade. That soon sorts the men from the boys.

No, I was MD for sulky burel uk. You said an area manger for a a big play can get a 6 figure bonus. Or are you now saying you meant to say an area manger for a big manufacture can get a 6 figure salary? On that point , if indeed you meant that or are back tracking, then I agree. They can. But they will have to earn it and work their little socks off

from MD to garden hand you must have been good at your job
I was MD for the UK Holdings Company and International sales Director for an international temporary event overlay supplier (De Boer) , I got sick of the travel in the end and now have a perfect work / farm life balance. You seem to think Rob's done wrong - pretty small minded in my opinion

Why be an a@se with @Robt ?
