How much should I expect to pay for earth moving

Was told years ago that the money was made when the machine was on site but not working. Eg loading lorries, but only 3 an hr, idle for 45 mins in the hr but getting paid.

That would be working for the council...

Council still pay sod all but the bonus is you dont burn diesel or wear tyres as you spend most of your time doing sod all

Just had a new sewage tank put in down the road thanks to Anglian water, it has taken 6 months. They have had a rubber duck ( think that is the name )4 wheeled probably ten ton machine, on hire all this time. I doubt it has done a days work, mostly shifting concrete in its bucket doing the job the 3 -4 idle man could have done with wheel barrows instead of leaning on their shovels.

Sounds about right.had a big unit put in village last summer.just a big hole and concrete tank put in and obviously connected.was a 21ton digger along with smaller machines and dumpers for months.

Obvious I know but quality of driver most important factor. Seen a field we used to farm levelled with dozer with GPS. Quantity of earth shifted and quality of work amazing.

D8 is a big machine we run a D6. Moving a D8 is an expensive thing as in the realms of STGO. D6 is in the region of £40-£45 an hour including fuel.
