How rich are you

I am confused by the perception that if you have debt of any kind then you are somehow an idiot or automatically poor.

People often complain here that they cant make a living. That is different from genuine poverty I can assure you.
Yeah but it's not called 'debt' in farming. It's called 'investment'. Just using other people's money and securing it on your kid's inheritance. If you call it the right thing then it is better. According to FW.

There is good debt and bad debt, not everyone knows the difference.

People buying tech forget how quickly it depreciates, best example is a new Tv but arguably new tractors too. The difference is if worked hard a tractor can cover its debt and depreciation costs and give a profit but the Jones's new TV will struggle to help pay the bills!

There is no shame in having debt, it's just if it's working for or against your wealth!

Having debt is differnet to being able to service said debt after tax.

Net worth is one way of guaging if your increasing your asset base or plundering the family silver!

If the first sentence of your post were correct I would be exceptionally poor, thankfully, as you have pointed out it is only a perception.
Agree wholeheartedly with the second sentence
.

The saying.... "children should be seen but not heard" holds true here......

What has age got to do with it?

How did this thread come back from the dead ?
4 yrs its been lying
It always surprises me how many good old threads there are on here that have simply fizzled out - and well before my time so I'm not the reason! :bag:

Then, suddenly it is made apparent

My answer would be I feel poor when it is dark, the sun comes up and I feel exceptionally well off, and fortunate to be here.
I'll never be "rich" and hopefully poor is not on the agenda either.
Somewhere in between is just alright.

...I must say I agree with Ollie, there is "not going ahead" and then there is "poverty" - the well off in some countries will have much less than our poor people do, even housing is unattainable let alone any type of welfare or hope. :(

I see GUTH was managinging to wind people up back in 2014 ;)
I see all threads turned into "subsidy wars" even then, some are still saying "if"...

(Just as well I don't have an opinion anymore)

It is an odd thing, the concept of "rich" "wealthy" "successful" because they are truly abstract:
One moment when I possibly felt the richest was the first 2 hours of my son's life, just sitting there with the little rat on my arm while his mum dozed off the anaesthetic.

Money can't buy you that, but I confess I felt more "rich" counting those tiny toes and fingers than I did when 'became a millionaire'

It demonstrates just how synthetic some of the things we've been taught to strive for really are. :)
