Thanks for your help I found the correct info off the land registry but the field isn't registered so no further forward.

Back to the drawing board...
 
If it's not registered you can try and claim it as your own, reasonably simple, just get your solicitor to apply to the land registry for title ownership, it's then upto them to either find out who owns it or if no challanger register it to yourself (no as simple as I have listed it but it does work).

Agreed, he's trying to find who's it is to rent or buy it. Can't claim by adverse possession if aren't occupying it already (squatting ?).
Going through same with field that family have farmed for 60 years after deeds have been lost in amalgamation of solicitors etc.

All the none registery means is that someone has owned it for a while, since before 1990 at the latest. It is possible that it has become "lost" and was part of a larger holding that was sold on without the field being included, but will still be owned by someone even if they do not know it. It may be worth asking the older people in the village (a letter to the local branch of the WI, Bowls club, etc). Does it look like it has been grazed in the last few years, or is half a wood growing there - if not, someone knows who owns it and is using it.
 
Smudge, read what I'm saying, by making the claim you are legally challanging the land registry to find out who owns it. Oh and go fudge yourself you small minded tosspot, suggest I'm an arshole again and I'll turn you into kebab.

Yes I know, by making a strong ownership challange you can get the land registry to look far deeper than their surface records.

Disagree, they only have the surface records on what has changed hands since LR started, all you need to do is prove a reasonable case, have support from neighbours, long standing residents etc.
There's still a 5 (?) year period after the claim that it can be overturned by owner who turns up / is found by other means.
Adverse possession claim is not without problems, and can be challenged.

All just my opinion / experience.

My old chap had what can only be described as an arsehole try this on with his yard, that he'd had for forty years (but not registered). The arsehole was trying it on, and admitted as much. The old lad on the other hand , couldn't get over the lengths he had to go to, solicitors etc to prove what everyone in the area knew already. He was dead inside twelve months.

Looking to find out who owns a specific 2 acre field on our boundary. tried the land registry website but all I can find is a property search. I know it only works on land that has been registered. says something about £57 for a title search and then £3 for a search on the government website.

Been going around in circles on the internet for a while any ideas?

I own it,I want £20k cash for it.:)

When you put in a claim, the LR notify all registered neighbouring owners, that soon puts the word out.
As I said there's still 5 (?) years afterwards when claim can be overturned even if accepted by LR.
But if you morally already know it's not your land, why try and claim it as your own? is that not just trying to steal it under posh terms?

The point I'm making seems lost, what I'm trying to get across is to use the claim process as an attempt to discover the owner.
Don't think it would work, if it's not listed then LR have NO information. I'm sure it would be more likely to work asking the local aged population or pitching a caravan in there.
You'd just get a reputation as some kind of thief and chancer.
