How would you cope with another summer of 76 ?

2011 was an extremely dry year here, our first and only cut was about 60% of normal, our maize grown on rented sandy land didn’t see a decent days rain from sowing to harvest, most of it didn’t grow to waist height yet we got by, dry cows and young stock were fed on straw and spring 2012 was very favourable, March 2012 was the driest ground conditions the cows grazed in that year.

Yes a lot of folks forget how dry 2011 was in some areas, including the 2011-12 winter.I was pictured in local rag next to one of our ponds at around the end of March, it had almost dried up. Next week it started to rain and I think more people remember the horrendous wet summer that that then followed.

I bloody hope so. I’m out topping and I can only just see where to go. We have very little grass left
It will start raining when the kids break up and the combines come out!

It's to pish here this afternoon up to midnight. We've had some useful rain over the weekend - first since mid May. Nothing big to shout about, but better by a long way than nothing at all. Looks to take up and be dry for at least a week, and probably more.

Thistles. Burnt them off with the knapsack the other day smash them back and then redo the regrowth.

Edit: and because since I bought a new tractor I’ve hardly been able to use it because the lad who helps me lives in it
Check you out....re growth!!! My drys and ys will be eating the dead thistles and nettles as there ain't no regrowth down here.
