Small fields? My average is under 5acre. Ideal size for mob grazing on a normal year 👍🏻
Yep, and all the gateways that go with them.
my ambition is (on going) to fence both sides of the hedges , hasn't been helped by rotten stakes and strainers, but new ideas and approach is begining to help. turn the corner .
river frontage is another, but thats expected to wash away every now and then, got to try and keep that river running as well i suppose

As someone who has zero chance of ever buying a viable farm, despite being quite good at farming and profitable, due to the nature of taxation laws, the subsidy system and archaic nature of lambdowner ship, and has to run a farming enterprise with thousands of stock on nothing more permanent than a six month grazing licence........ I find it difficult in anyway to feel sorry for someone who own a farm.

One of my sisters used to be a member of a rambling group and she left for just that reason. What's the point in going for a walk in the country and not seeing anything?:scratchhead:

You might be the one who was dressed in hand-me-down clothes as a lad.

The trouble was: you had three older sisters. 🏃‍♂️

There are those who have done what you're saying you can't.

What's really galling is relations had a very nice farm, productive land, loads of sheds, all owned outright.

Couldn't manage to make any money and have sold up.

We rent, the rent money absorbs all the sub money but we still manage to make ends meet!

I can't remember where, but I was on a farming connect course and the course leader said something like " tenant farmers are always the most efficient"
