I think the seeds establish (dropped by birds,wind blown or whatever) in the gaps caused by overgrazing, nothing to do with feed.
In some cases that probably is the case. But the number of them and the rapidity with which they are there in such numbers, makes birds or wind seem unlikely to me.

I promise you I am right. I remember reading papers about ragwort hybridisation and spread relating to prevailing wind and movement along main roads.

I'm sure you are right regarding those areas, but it wouldn't fit with the spread of them in the fields in question. There is no ragwort, noticeable anyway, for a long distance around and birds would be likely to spread it in a wider area, it tends to be focused in areas the horses spend more time standing on, that leads me to conclude a link to feeds.

Our neighbour has a couple of acres,we surround them we have no ragwort neither do our surrounding neighbour's but the land we surround started to grow it a couple of years ago (they don't keep any animals)
