Public opinion and pressure is starting to take effect on the haulage industry in terms of pollution - look at existing and soon to be scaled up restrictions re diesel vehicles in urban areas, directly affecting the trucks bringing in the goods that 'feed' the metropolis and so the inhabitants themselves, ironic I know. How will this 'tax' on haluage improve air quality, are food and raw materials going to be brought in on bicycles? Think this is the gist of @SilliamWhale 's point - the public's wishes and whims do not necessarily translate into sensible or helpful outcomes.

Back on Ag, if 'they' (the pressure groups) got their wish and glyphosate is out of the way they will start beating the drum for the next thing in line, endocrine disruptors etc etc, its the nature of the beast.

The ones who want to ban lorries from town centres really crack me up.
Everything would stop, no deliveries and no refuse collections, its hilarious.

Do people not think as we leave Europe, that the ban on glyphosate might not be as likely?

No.
Could be even more likely, State the Labour Party is in can see greens having an even bigger share of the vote at local and devolved government elections. The big parties then have to throw them some crumbs now & again to get through whatever bigger issue they have going on at the time.

i don't think it'll happen...post brexit the govt will want to keep us as competitive as possible....but perhaps they'll be limits to use?

more expensive but mixing grass+blw weed herbicides together to replace?

But most other herbicides have higher toxicity!

i know that...you know that.....but we live in a 'post truth' world .....for instance take the WQD of 2014 and pesticides water ....the water companies know the limits are illogically low....we know (at least i think) that for the limits to be adhered to we'd have to stop spraying sept-march incl...at least.... and the politicians keep putting back the deadline because they know....yet the drive to meet these limits goes on

This electric weed control is interesting. Does anyone know how the Electroherb works (watched the videos but could not find one in English unfortunately), does it have electrodes that go into the soil to send current between them, or does it use corona type discharge?
