Hello
Does anyone have any guidelines for fitting new Knott brakes to an Ifor.
Fitting new cables and shoes etc, so need to adjust it all up to behave correctly.

Bit disapointing to remove a drum and the friction material is seperated from the shoe :(

Way I’ve done them is fit the new shoes and clip the cables on through the back plate, drum and wheel back on and adjust the adjuster till they’re just starting to bind. Then fit other threaded end of the cables to the bar and adjust all cables to same tension. Sometimes the handbrake rod will need a tweak aswell to remove the slack. Good idea to try and get some oil into new cables before fitting them aswell and a oiece of inner tube wrapped around them where they go over the axle/crossmembers underneath, stops them rubbing through. No idea if it’s the recommended procedure though but it aint failed yet!!!

As above ,,hang the cables up and flood them with thin oil ,,did my tipper last year ,strip everything down to bare bones ,take the adjuster cams out of the back plate and clean aswell ,,check the drum bearing while its apart and its not a bad idea to get new retaining nuts as the old one have an indentation punched in them to stop them unscrewing ,,it doesnt line up on assembly

That’s a common problem with contemporary drum brakes in trailers these days. I had one fail on me and lock the drum in a forwards diredtion. Wrecked a tyre dragging it to a tyre place where the lads removed all the shoes and internals so I could get home. Cracked the drum too!

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
