im certainly trying to sort water - ive just taken a 200l drum up to the stock along my woodland tracks to the top fields (on a hill) - IN the rain... to a wet/spring field next to an old farmstead shed building... Rainwater harvesting is my current youtube research marathon...
Sometines grants are, or have been availiable for storage set ups and would a dam good use of a grant if could one acheive it ir.
Im just thinking also that a rathef large funnel type arrangement ....maybe .like an upward facing satellite dish ? on the top of a decent sized storage tank with a drinker off the side would , at least be enough for a flock in winter ...

Have to find some way to keep the bledy birds of tho...

Catslide some corrugated sheets, just hang gutters , easily double the catchment area of a hovel roof

Doug's latest. I'm a fan of his. Tells it like it is

I'm a fan of Regenerative Agriculture but I also think we need to be pragmatic about it disappearing up its own bottom when scrutinised

@martian - another cracking guy for Groundswell although he doesn't totally fit the mould in some ways

Ive been given a few tons of brewers spent grain, originally from a distillers, does anyone have an idea of application rates on a sand based soil, will be used for root crops
I think the short answer is, "all of it"... how much can you put on?
If only you got the free beer as well, then you could pee in a big barrel and put all the N back with it... ;)
It should be pretty good stuff, not something I've any experience with.

Expect a C:N ratio of about 12-17:1.. ie nitrogen won't be "needed" to break it down, N will likely be released from application to soil, certainly a few hundredweight won't hurt anyone
It may go a bit mouldy so you wouldn't want to put tons on an acre.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
